Things that go bump in the night...

I am not a professional, or even a very good amateur ghost hunter(a hobbyist is probably the best classification). I am not a travel agent or tour guide (just a nomad who can’t sit still for long and likes to live an adventurous life and tell stories about it). I am not a DJ or a restaurateur (just a girl who loves live music and local fare).

I have always looked at travel a bit differently. I am passionate about the things that I love to do, see, hear, taste and experience. I truly believe in the old adage that travel is the one thing you can buy that makes you richer. I am an advocate for solo travel, for getting off the beaten path, for skipping the most typically touristy hot spots, immersing yourself in a location’s history, and for experiencing places the way the locals do today.

When I was living in Los Angeles, I once gave an unconventional list of things to do and see to a virtual stranger who had never been to the city before. He remarked at how refreshing it was and how I should do that for a living...at the time, I just thought he was trying to butter me up. It worked. He became a very important part of my life for a time. And this series is the culmination of my passions, my sideways ways of being a traveler, and his encouragement to share it with others.

There is a time and a place for a beach, a bikini and an adult beverage. But for me the joy of travel is in the people, the food, the scenery, the history, the folklore, and the (quite literal) haunts.

So I hope you find these guides to be the perfect combination of bright lights, delicious bites, historicals sites, and things that go bump in the night (even if that thing is someone’s great grandpa Fred who can’t keep up with all their feng shui redecoration and just stubbed his ghostly toe on the coffee table for the third time).
